Why the Chest?

The Chest is contacted over 1000 times a year for assistance. Since January 2022, we helped 230 people with information and referrals to best serve their needs. Forty-six families who needed immediate help received financial, food, or other aid from the Chest.
No other town in Monroe County has a Community Chest
After World War II, many towns converted their "War Chest" to a "Community Chest" as Webster did in 1948. All others failed, leaving the Webster Community Chest the only one around. Through the Chest, Webster's citizens are able to provide services that no other town enjoys.
One example is Meals on Wheels. In every other town, a needy older adult who qualifies for meal service (and a daily wellness check) but doesn't have the funds to cover the cost will apply and may wait -- sometimes several months -- until financial aid is available. NOT IN WEBSTER! Here, thanks to our donors, individuals apply and start IMMEDIATELY because the Chest picks up the cost until other funding becomes available to cover the cost of their meals.
